APPLICATION INFORMATION
How do I apply to join Shell?
For Professional opportunities, apply directly to a specific vacancy found using our Job Search Engine. The relevant method of application will be outlined in the detailed job description.
What do you mean by ‘Professional’?
Professional candidates, also referred to as Experienced Hires, usually have 3 or more years of professional work experience.
Do I need a degree to work at Shell?
It will depend on the level and nature of the role in which you are interested. If a degree is required, it will usually be stated in the job description. However, a candidate who does not hold a degree may still be considered for one of our professional vacancies if they can demonstrate substantial relevant experience.
Do I need to have experience of working in the energy industry to join Shell?
It depends on the position in which you’re interested. Many technical roles require you to have spent time in a similar job and environment, while others require less specific experience. Most of our commercial opportunities are based on generic business skill sets and thus do not require experience of the energy industry.
What sorts of jobs are available?
We offer a range of jobs in many different Technical and Commercial fields. Availability of jobs varies from year to year, depending on the needs of Shell’s operations in each country. We advise you to use the Search Agent Manager to receive alerts when new vacancies matching your preferred criteria become available.
If I’m applying for a job outside of my current location, will Shell provide relocation assistance?
Shell provides a competitive relocation package that is dependent on the type of job and length of assignment. It is recommended that you apply for roles specific to the areas in which you are interested in working.
I'd like to apply for a job at Shell – can I send you an email with my application?
If you would like to apply for a job at Shell you can submit your application on our careers website. Here you can look for current job openings, create a profile and enable email notifications via the Search Agent Manager.
Please do not send us your application by any means other than those indicated at the careers website as we will not be able to consider it.
Will I be contacted by a recruiter after I apply to a job?
We receive a high volume of applications and only applicants who are being considered for an interview will be contacted directly by a Shell representative.
How do I sign up for new job notifications (Search Agent Manager)?
To be notified of new vacancies as they are posted, please create an account, log in and enable email notifications via the 'Search Agent Manager'. Then, you may create a search profile which will generate an email to you with details of new postings which fit the criteria you specify.
How long will Shell keep me on file if I submit an application or register an account?
We store all candidate details on a central database where they are kept for three years, unless we receive a written request by an individual to delete their personal record. These records enable us to search candidate profiles for specific skill sets, should we identify specific recruitment needs in the future.
How do I remove my details from your database?
In order for us to delete your information from our database, please provide us (careers@shell.com) with the following:
- The name that you registered
- The email address that you registered
How long after applying can I expect to wait before hearing anything?
When applying for vacancies for Professional roles, you will receive an acknowledgement of our receipt of your application details within 48 hours. Generally, within two to four weeks after the vacancy closing date, you should receive correspondence regarding a decision. Please note: these timelines may vary when higher volumes of applications are received.
How can I find out the status of my application?
Once you have logged into your account, click on the 'Job Application Status' link to check the current status of your application.
My application has been regretted. Can I receive some feedback?
Unfortunately, due to the high volumes of applications received, we are unable to offer individual feedback on your application.
The position I was applying to is no longer available. Why is this?
If you are unable to find the position for which you were interested in applying, it is likely due to the position reaching its closing date. Please note: Shell reserves the right to close jobs before the advertised closing date if necessary.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
When applying, which browsers are compatible and supported?
Officially the following browsers are supported:
Internet Explorer 7 and above
- Firefox 4 and above
- Safari 4 and above
- Google Chrome 12 and above
Internet companies such as Google are constantly updating their browsers so the above list may not always be current or comprehensive.
*Mobile devices may not always be supported.
When I try to log into my account, I am getting an error message saying 'We were unable to find that e-mail and password in our system'.
If you are sure you have created an account, Please use the link to reset your password. If you have not logged in for a considerable time you may need to create a new account.
I have forgotten my login details/ need to reset password.
If your login details no longer work, or you cannot remember them, Please use the link to reset your password on the login page. This will generate an email to your registered email address with a link which will allow you to reset your password.
Please note that the link will only be active for sometime. If you do not receive the email, please check your spam filters/ settings which may possibly be blocking our system emails.
I’ve used the 'Forgot your password?' link on the login page, but I still can’t reset my password.
Please note: if you are accessing the reset password link after 3 hours of receipt, the link will no longer work; it only remains active for 3 hours.
If you are not receiving the reset email:
- Please ensure that you are resetting the exact email address which is linked to your account user name.
- Please check your spam filters/settings which may be blocking our system emails.
Please try clicking on the ‘Forgot your password?’ link again. This will generate another email to your registered email address with a link which will allow you to reset your password.
I can’t find a suitable job on your website; can I still apply?
We no longer accept speculative applications, CVs or resumés via email. For Professional roles, you can only apply to a specific vacancy found through our Job Search Engine.
If there are no vacancies that are currently of interest to you, we recommend that you register an account, log in and enable email notifications via the Search Agent Manager. We will notify you when new vacancies matching your preferred criteria become available.
Alternatively, you can also join our Shell Talent Community for updates on career opportunities, major projects and events in your field. Your details will also be available to our recruiters who may get in touch when they have a suitable vacancy.
VIRTUAL INTERVIEWS
Under what circumstance is the Virtual Interview scheduled?
For the final assessment, a virtual interview is scheduled, instead of an in-person meeting, when the interviewers and the applicants are in different locations.
How is the virtual interview different from the Face-to-Face interview?
The virtual interview is merely the digital version of an in-person interview where the interviewee will receive details on how to join. The assessment methodology is the same in both the formats and there is no advantage for the applicant in either formats. It is more a matter of convenience and ease of scheduling an interview when the interviewers and the applicants are in different locations.

ELIGIBILITY
I am applying from a country outside of Canada. Am I eligible to be hired?
You must be legally entitled to work in Canada by way of Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency, or holding a valid work permit authorizing you to commence employment with Shell prior to applying for the role

What is Shell Talent Community?

How do I sign up for Shell Talent Community (STC)?
It only takes a minute to enter your details and then you will begin to receive messages about your area of expertise and relevant news and events. Please note: Joining our Shell Talent Community does not replace applying for a specific role via Job Search. You still need to apply for any vacancies that match your skills and interests.
Is my information kept confidential?
Shell will only use your personal data in accordance with the Shell Talent Community Data Protection Policy
EMPLOYEE REFERRALS
If a Shell employee refers me for a specific vacancy, how do I apply?
Shell has an Employee Referral Program which encourages employees to refer their friends or contacts who may be qualified for a specific position. Only certain positions posted externally are eligible for a referral. A Shell employee must forward you an Employee Referral link to the specific job. Then, you must apply using that link. To be considered a referral, you cannot apply from the www.shell.com/careers site.
Shell employees can check the status of a referral from the Shell Employee Referral Program intranet site.
When a Shell employee refers a friend, he/she may be eligible for a bonus if you are hired and remain in the position for a minimum time period (subject to terms and conditions stated in our internal communications). To ensure your friend may be eligible for the referral bonus, be sure that you apply using the application link in the email you receive.
