The hotline connects victims and survivors with social services, law enforcement and emergency services, as well as receives tips from the public.

In Canada, human trafficking for sexual exploitation is considered one of the fastest-growing crimes. It is happening in big cities and small towns, with traffickers moving their victims across the country. According to Stats Canada, between 2012 and 2022, of the 3,103 detected victims of police-reported human trafficking, about 94% were women and girls and 69% were under the age of 25. Globally, the crime generates $150 billion, according to the International Labour Organization.

“With a national Mobility network, our reach is extensive,” says Susannah Pierce, Shell Canada President and Country Chair. “We have a unique opportunity to create broadened awareness about the warning signs of human trafficking, where to go for help, and in doing so, directly support victims. As a corporate citizen, we have a responsibility to do our part to help prevent youth and adults from becoming or staying victims.”

How the public can help

Human trafficking can happen to anyone and knowledge is the best defence.

  1. Learn more about the signs of human trafficking from the RCMP.
  2. Call the toll-free number 1-833-900-1010 to report suspected human trafficking. Information will be passed on to the appropriate authority or callers may be referred to local emergency services if immediate intervention is needed.
